Some people refer to the "modern leglock game" as though heel hooks are a new invention. Although they may have fallen out of favour for a few hundred years before the latest resurgence, we have evidence (like the sculpture this design is based on) that the ancient Greeks knew about heel hooks and also the risk of playing guard.
